How to Get Poker Luck

Most people will agree that poker is mostly a game of skill. Obviously there is a percentage of luck though. Both online and live poker players rely on some good cards, flops and seating arrangements and not just the skills they possess to help them get through to a victorious win.

It seems some players have a natural skill AND luck factor about them. We can all develop skill, there is no doubt about that. The more effort we put into study and playing, the more our poker skills increase. Some players just have the worst luck ever though. It seems no matter what they do they can not get good cards, they run badly, the flops are against them and these spurts can run for what seems eternity. Other players on the opposite scale of the luck factor have nothing but premium hands and perfect flops. How can this be? Do they bring luck on themselves or are they actually naturally lucky?

Many people try different things at poker tables to induce luck. Some people have their lucky card protectors, lucky charms and try to get their lucky seat. Other players have rituals they perform at tables such a bending cards a certain way, moving seats at certain times and praying to the poker gods.

When it comes to pre game luck inducing, again rituals come into practice for some people. They eat certain foods, prepare themselves mentally by doing certain things at certain places and bring along their lucky songs on their trusted ipods and mp3 players. Others go that little bit further though when it comes to bringing themselves luck. Few do it, but - I was told just the other day there are some! I went and further looked and asked, and surprisingly there are actually more people that do the following things than I anticipated. Call it crazy, I don't know? I have decided to try some of this myself and see the outcome. It can not hurt right?

Power of positive thought: This i one thing used commonly amongst poker players. It is used at the tables and before hand. It is used mostly for mental conditioning but also used for luck factor in poker. People use the power of positive thought to try and push some sort of holding luck when their flops, turns and rivers hit the board. They also positively think about how much luck they will have in the game that's coming up.

Manifestation: Players manifest their dream, goal and wins. They manifest the glory, the start, the end, the money. They try to use their mind to make it happen. They believe in sending it out into the atmosphere - sending their thoughts of the win. The mediate on this, focus on this and block everything out. They use posters, songs, videos, words such as "I will have nothing but good luck, I will get good cards, I will win the tournament, I will be victorious." During this process of manifestation they also use vision and make the visions a big part of it. They "see" in their minds the cards, the win, the cash. By visions, I mean they PUT the pictures in their head and focus on them.

Spells: Players (i am guessing not many) have the option if taking this spiritual thing a little further and trying some luck spells. Not something I ave done, but may be worth a try - its all hocus pocus to most but; who knows - it may work? I looked around and there are many luck spells. I couldn't believe it! If your zany enough i guess you could give it a try if your luck factor is dead. Here are a few i found!

1. Just say these words when the moon is full:
"Lady of luck come out of your hidden course
bless your light upon me as the light of the moon shines above
and in the light of luck will be blessed I, when the moon is next to be full "

2. Wondering magic bring to me, in this life the luck I need,
so all my angles can be seen, and thus fulfill my every dream,
combined earth and fire, bring forth my hearts desire,
guardians of the sea, keep all harm from me.
This should be done while lighting 4 candles 1 at each side of u repeat the
above words 3 times to bring good luck and obtain your hearts desire.

3. Gather 7 mall pieces or turquoise.
Place the stones under a full moon, to soak up the light for seven hours.
Take the stones into your hands, and say:
Luck be quick, luck be kind,
By lucky seven, good luck be mine.
Place stones into green bag, & carry with you wherever you go.
Throw a stone into a moving body of water, stating your desire, anytime you feel the
need for a little good fortune.

These are obviously just 3 of the many out there, written by goodness knows who!

Crystals and Stones: Evident-ally it seems that with spells comes lucky charms. Stones and other kinds of luck materials and objects. It is written, if you need luck in gambling that Aventurine and Tourmaline are what you are looking for! seems like I need some new jewelry if this is true!

So the last thing i am going to mention for luck I just came across whilst reading. Its luck potions. Again possibly worth a try! The way my lucks running, I am going to be whackily trying it all (or sensibly if it actually works).

Luck Potion for Beginners: Lemon juice and sugar, one table spoon of each in a small glass of water, add a quartz crystal to catalyze and activate in sunshine for about ten minutes. For beginners it helps to put a piece of paper under the glass with "Luck Potion for (your name)!!" written on it. You need to drink it all in one go (don't drink the crystal, obviously!). Depending on the person, it lasts for about a week. Top up if you need to. And wearing something yellow helps as well.

Thats all for investigative little me! Best of luck on the poker tables and with your luck enhancing ways!
Good luck with d luck potion :-)

Poker and Dogs Help My Passions

Maybe not for everyone, but for myself and many others I have found along my life journey there are two passions beyond family and friends that go hand in hand, poker and dogs. For those who know me personally or have followed my facebook posts about my beloved canine friends in the past, you would know that I was outrageously mad to say the least over the last few months. To all those that have no clue as yet due to my absence from the poker world things got a lot worse for me and my best friend (one of them anyway).

I had made discussions and posts about the annoyance and anger regarding the treatment of my beloved dogs and myself by the ranger. Not all the rangers, just 1. This ranger has continued his crap to the point I almost had a nervous breakdown and my health suffered incredibly as he partially won a battle against us and pretty much forced the re-homing of my best friend, my baby, my love.

Let me explain and then let me ask you something.

My dog apparently escaped and ran up to an elderly lady. I wont go into details other then to say the lady seems to care very little about this, the dog didnt bite her nor attack her but the ranger classed this as intimidation and harassment, let's remember we are talking about my beautiful border collie puppy you have all seen pics of. The ranger landed on my doorstep at 8am on Sunday and said "Hand her over to be put down or pay $1000.00". I had just lost my nan, had my son in my care after major surgery on his arm and severe health issues I will not disclose but can say are a womens worse nightmare. He would not even allow me to re-home her.

I convinced him to give me until 10am the next day and he came back as promised. I told him I was re-homing my pet temporarily (to keep it away from harms way being HIM) and that i would pay the fines. Not good enough! He wanted my dog dead. (revenge?) He said he was placing a dangerous dog order on her and that i would be forced to cage her infinity. Not having this cage imposes fines such as $33,000.00. What does one do?

I refused to accept this and locked myself inside hysterical. He called seniors. I called for help. (That's the summary).

I asked the assistance of people in the poker community such as Peter Blackhall from NoahsK9 school. He did a fabulous job helping without even thinking twice. I also managed to find rescue groups to help me out such as Border Collie Rescue or Arajoel. The situation didn't turn out perfect, far from it. But my dog lives and at this stage has no dangerous dog order and i do not believe it will get one.

The dog has been re-homed with Arajoel and I believe it was NoahsK9 schools convincing as well as the strength of the rescue organizations leader that saved her life. I was powerless without them. I am still paying the fines and my heart is broken and missing a piece for forever. I will miss playing online poker as my health improves over the coming weeks (and the Dr visits and hospital visits get fewer) with my beloved girl by my feet or snuggling with me as I do my thing - play poker and love my dogs. She lives though and has another chance of life, thank goodness for the support we received.

I know that people are going through tragedies left right and center, heart breaking ones to say the least. This is how I felt yet was helped unconditionally and while i didn't have a mass of funds by these people. If you are a poker player and a dog lover, and have received any kind of support from me in the past. I ask you to step up and show your care in return. I really never ask for anything, this would be a first! Please help the people that are looking after my beloved girl so they can continue their good work. As everyone says: Every Cent Counts! So does every ounce of support!

A donation to this cause would be gratefully received and go 100% towards the rescue and medical costs of helping these neglected and rescued animals. We take donations using Paypal, please click on the donate button.

You can go and make a donation on the website here: http://www.webtrade.com.au/arajoel/saveme.htm (Scroll down the button to view donation button)

For a great trainer in NSW - Noahs K9 School: http://www.noahsk9school.com.au/

My sincere thanks to Arajoel, please share this post with your poker buddies and animal loving friends. It only takes 2 minutes to give $1 to help these wonderful people care - (alike I was helped!)

Putting Bad Beats In Prospective

Everyone whines about bad beats in poker and for a reason; they hurt! They hurt our determination, they hurt our bankrolls, they hurt our will, they hurt our poker souls and sometimes our will to play the next game. Bad beats make us curse, cry, smash mice, blab to other players, put down other players, scream at the poker god. A bad beat must be placed in prospective however. How bad is a bad beat when one compares it to bad beats beyond a poker table?

The greatest poker players on earth never cease to stop teaching us, they seem to teach by accident on many different levels. During the opening of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship, Joe Hachem discussed the flash flooding and loss of life and property in Queensland Australia. He said "Watch this video, and remember it, it may put your bad beats in prospective". It was the best advice I received all year! I probably shouldn't have just quoted those words as they were not his exact words, but fairly close. The video showed heartache on every level. Let me explain!

The tears rolled during the video, life's bad beats were certainly thrown at these people. How many of us can say they have had a $500,000.00 bad beat? People on the video did, even kids - their house, assets, property all swept away with only a slab of concrete remaining. How many of us have had a "priceless" bad beat? By priceless I mean a bad beat that you will never forget that changes your life forever in an instant and takes the ones you love most from you; in the most horrific way? Again, a man on the video did, he lost his wife and son, they were swept away in a torrent of water, his son a non swimmer who was hailed a hero as he begged for his little brother to be saved first. Imagine the little brother bad beat - His brother was swept away as he was rescued and his mother looked at his brother being swept away and let go and went with him - This was right in front of that little boys eyes. Now that IS a bad beat!

I lay awake most of the night thinking of bad beats. I thought of every bad beat I have ever had on a poker table. I then thought of every bad beat I have ever had in life. There is no comparison. Yesterday I changed, I changed forever! My bad beats have been much like these I talk of. I have watched my own home burn down in front of my eyes, with it many memories and every possession I owned as well as my beloved mans best friend, my dog. I have lost loved ones and friends to horrific accidents. One week I remember losing 8 friends and family members. I have died and been resuscitated and suffered the most horrible health battles and pain imaginable (to this day). My trip aces being smashed by 7 and 2 off suit is now in my mind not so bad when I think of this.

Of course I don't want to think of these things but the last 3 days for me have been pretty disasterous and I have shed sub-mountable tears. Maybe sub-mountable is an understatement, my face is swollen from crying it seems. You know, what I am about to write doesn't even seem like a bad beat now, but for me it has felt like it!

I was told by my doctor I would have surgery next Thursday
I was told my nan was in kidney failure etc and was going to die
My son smashed his arm, pretty much compound fractured it
My son had a 3.5 - almost 4 hours surgery on his arm during which the crash cart was called, I almost lost him
I spent a night and day with my agonized screaming son, now filled with plates, screws, wires, staples and other forms of metal
I was advised my grandmother died
I was asked to write an obituary or whatever it is called
I wrote it
I passed out cold to wake all night to pain relief begging, nightmares and bloody flooding again!

I am over my bad beats and now have them in prospective, I hope I helped you too - that is all.

Loaning Borrowing and Transferring Money for Poker and Some Problems!

So you are short of cash on online poker sites and figure that you will find someone will roll you up? You have a fair amount of cash online and someone needs a loan? You plan on transferring money - swapping from one site to another? You have a live tournament to play and plan on getting staked? All of these things come under the categories of "Loaning, Borrowing and Transferring Money for Poker". I have seen a lot of these transactions lately and although it is not new and has long been a way to operate in poker for a long time, it can cause issues regardless of what side of the deal you are on.

Every poker player has their ups and downs no matter how good or bad they are. There is one thing for certain though. A very good poker player will never go completely busto. Let's think of the likes of Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and the like. Can you imagine them going completely broke - EVER? These poker players have built thier bankrolls and have played accordingly and managed poker like a business. If you are needing a loan from a friend to play a game, I would suggest you start considering this factor, the factor of good poker management. Sure we cant help a downward spiral of losses but we can ensure we deal with them appropriately and lower our stakes to build things back up. Issue number 1 is obviously self control! Control yourself before you dig yourself a hole of debt you can not escape.

On the other hand many of us form strong bonds and relationships in poker and see a friend in need and want to help. The fact is, in poker you are always going to see friends having their very low down moments. We are not all Phil Iveys! Lets remember that poker is much like life, you do not loan your money (your car or your wife / husband lol). It has got to be a very trusted person for you to loan money to and a person who needs it for a good reason, right? Starvation, house burnt down, got flooded, robbed, needs medical care are all good reasons. Is a poker tournament? What are the chances of getting paid back? Sure they are your friend (for now), they are you very good friend but .... there is no guarantee they are going to win and then they are going to have to loan more money right? What are you going to do when you need that money back? Say goodbye to the friendship! I have seen massive fights that have never been resolved through loaning money to friends in poker. Issue number 2 is keeping your friendships. Simply not being able to afford to loan to a friend or not having access to funds is a good way to get out of it to avoid a permanent friendship breakdown.

Transferring money causes issues too! A simple transfer or helping a friend cash out can cause much chaos and a lot of tension between players. Sometimes we do not have a way to cash out but our friend does. We use them as a means to get our money. We can transfer to them on the online poker site and they can draw out funds for us. If something goes wrong their end however with bank and online merchant delays and screw ups let the fights begin! The same applies for the other way around. You deposit for them and transfer them the money expecting cash in return. The cash doesn't come and you are furious! Things happen, its not normally anyones "fault" as such, unless they are a rip off and planned it. If they are your friend though its unlikely! Issue 3 is keeping things calm when transfers go wrong, its hard but its a must and this issue happens regularly! Accounts get frozen and funds get held up, its a common and unfortunate thing!

Lets look at a backing situation and what can go wrong! You offer to back your friend into a tournament for a 70% return on your money when he cashes. He doesn't cash, you expect not to get paid off. He does cash and doesn't pay you off as he has sold shares to others as well? I have seen people over sell themselves so many times and fall short with an inability to pay the return. Nasty! I have also seen friends furious with friends they have backed for making a move that they wouldn't and busting out. It isn't pretty! It also becomes a big issue when the backing money isn't dished up! I saw players at recent tournaments promised backing, the backing money was held up so they used other means until it came through, means ($$) they couldn't afford or didn't plan on using. The money backing money never arrived! Did someone say fight? Issue number 4 when it comes to money and poker and loaning and borrowing is ensuring backing transactions run smoothly. Don't just assume they will, even the biggest of players get caught!

All in all, to keep within your own means and funds is the best way for sure perfection when it comes to friendships and a smooth poker life. Keep your funds where they belong and don't mix and match them with your friends. If it is a business deal and done between yourself and colleagues, that can be different, but when it is a friend, the sure way to keep a friend is to keep poker business away from the friendship. Also watch who you are dealing with w
hen it comes to business transactions. I have found some big fat rip offs of late! I would hate anyone else to encounter them!

David Saab is my Friend How Can he have become a Drug Trafficker?

It not often I am speechless. For the past few days I have been though. As per my last blog post I was headed off to the Aussie Millions and excited about meeting up with all of my friends I speak to pretty much daily; sometimes weekly. My first port of call was definitely to see David Saab, a good friend, a loved friend, a friend I can't believe is a drug trafficker!

David rang me up just 2 days before arrived and said "Hello my little drinking buddy! When will you be here?!?!" I told him i would meet him at the bar at the player party, I was very excited to be seeing him. He has been a great friend, supporter and adviser. At times he has been my rock, he has been my co-host, my friend.

At the bar we met, first person I saw when walking into the party. Hugs, kisses, drink jammed in my hand. All the usual behavior and excitement about the up and coming game and weekends. I went looking for other friends after this, lost track of where Dave was but had it sorted to meet with him and the Saab crew the next morning at 10:30am. I really was so very excited to meet all the members of his newly formed crew to say the least. Particularly Remo who I am also in close contact with - specifically come my final tables.

So I meet with the guys the next morning, talk to them for ages, go to a party later that night, speak to Remo at the party for what seemed an hour and went back to my motel. I didnt see them the next day or night and traveled home to do some "homely things" and get ready for week 2 of my Aussie Millions appointment. Then I received a phone call that no friend wants to hear. It was my birthday, I was in terrible shock, it ruined my day to say the least. The guys acted like their normal selves, we talked about poker and the Saab crew and life in general. Nothing was out of the ordinary in their behavior or actions. Any wonder I was shocked!

As per all of the articles you have likely read, David and Remo and some other guy were placed in jail after allegedly smuggling 21kg's of Cocaine into Australia from Vancouver. I was again; shocked but mostly in disbelief - I think I will be in disbelief until I know every factual detail. It kind of reminds me of when Victoria Coren wrote about her disbelief about Ron Fanelli the mad yank who murdered a prostitute and placed her body parts in a bag. Why did it? I didn't believe Dave would do this and I could not imagine him spending years of his life in prison. He is not that kind of guy (the same thing Victoria had said about Ron).

I have been asked many questions since the news broke. I have read a lot of horrible things about my friends in relation to this. Most people do write that Dave is a good guy and of course I agree. Most people are also in disbelief. Many supportive, many defamatory.

Lot's of people say (now - not before) that David was obviously on drugs due to his bright, bubbly, shit talking personality. I can say as far as I am aware he isn't a coke addict and he is always bright and bubbly, giggly and talking non stop at even 9am whilst he has a hangover and drink his green tea. They couldn't be further from the truth. He is a bright man and that's just him. Again an intelligent man, which again; brings me to further disbelief.

Time will tell, I have no answers other then I will be keeping faith and hoping for the best for my friend even if he did do something stupid. Again IF. I find this hard to believe from David Saab.

Back to Aussie Millions tomorrow and hopefully not back there to be asked stupid questions that I cant answer. I read the same papers and speak to the same people as anyone who would ask me anything so I really have nothing to comment about.

Aussie Poker Millions Hat Trick Adventure

This will likely be my last blog post before I take off to the 2011 Aussie Millions Poker Championship with my partner and photographer Tyrone Hunter to report on the $100,000.00 challenge. That's not what i wanted to write about though. I wanted to discuss my thoughts on the whole Aussie patriotism and the possible results of the Aussie Millions 2011 being, a possible Aussie Hat Trick!

We have witnessed 2 Aussie fairy tale endings in a row now, being the wonderful win by Stewart Scott followed by the win of Tyron Krost, also an Aussie. We Aussies like doing things in threes, there is nothing better then a hat trick (3 in a row) for us! Will the Aussie crowd roar as another Aussie crosses the Aussie Millions Poker Championship finish line in first place?

My thoughtful adventure on this topic started last January after Tyron Krost won the main event. Many of the Aussie spectators didn't even realize he was an Aussie and left! I remember having a small talk to Marsha Waggoner saying, I am sure there is one Aussie left (3 handed). Tyrone my partner disagreed as did most others in the crowd. I then looked around to see the Aussie cheer squad gone to realize I must have been wrong. Gladly there was one Aussie left and of course as stated he was victorious.

The very next day i was shocked to say the least - 2 Aussie Poker Players in a row! I started to think of that hat trick then and there and knew that 2011 would be even sweeter if an Aussie was on the final table. The live bloggers would be going crazy!

Anyway, I got to thinking of all the winning Aussies, we have a lot of them now. So many solid players! I wondered to myself who I would love to see win. i have so many close Aussie friends playing in the event and would so sweetly love to see them win. I have so many friends overseas though playing also. I will be cheering whoever my closest friend is on the final table I guess! But to witness a hat trick is something i would also love to see.

My first stop on this little adventure will be the player welcome party. This will follow with a close railing of the $100,000.00 Challenge and then the main event! A hat trick adventure of my own - my 3 favorite and what I consider to be the most exciting and important events on the calender.

To all those already there - I look forward to seeing you and wish you the very best. I am off on a pre adventure to find a dress to wear, I just don't have one that's suitable! I might stop by the hair salon and the beauty therapist along the way. I think a new pair of swim wear is also on the cards as well as a stack of caffeine tablets for the late nights ahead. Here's hoping for a fabulous time! - Did I mention it's the third year in a row with Tyrone by my side as a companion at the events? Certainly a hat trick for me already! It is also the 3rd year in a row that i will be writing for APW (Australian Poker Weekly) at the event, and that Tyrone will be taking pics! Howz That!

Aussie Millions Coverage 2011

Every year I am at the Aussie Millions without a miss! I am certainly not live blogging while there, nor doing chip counts but regardless i am covering it by form of articles on the Aussie Millions for various publications such as pokerpro magazine, Australian Poker Weekly, and Woman Poker Player Magazine. I usually cover every event winner one way or another. This year I will be paying specific attention to the coverage of the $100,000.00 challenge and the Aussie Millions Main Event. As well as the victories of women.

Its an exciting time for everyone in the Australian Poker community to have the biggest poker tournament in the southern hemisphere on our door step each January. It's not just about the poker and i believe I show this in my articles.

My Aussie Millions coverage always includes a picture of the atmosphere, the tears, the sweat and the happiness and defeats. It shows major victories, newly found fame and friendships made and renewed! I try to add in the excitement of the functions beyond the poker tournaments and give good indicators of the fun times had by all.

There is one other thing that I always look forward to and that's the introduction each year to someone in the poker hall of fame. It gave me great delight last year to see our beautiful Marsha Waggoner inducted as the first female and one of the very poker players I look up to. I already have nerves as to who it is this year. I have my hopes on a particular someone!

Anyway, post Aussie Millions or post events rather for some publications you will read my articles on how it all went, the highlights and an insight as to most portions of the tournament including; as mentioned, the social aspect. All articles on winning women poker players will be sent through to woman poker player magazine as they hit! I will do a full coverage of all events to Australian Poker Weekly and to pokerpro magazine USA, Canada, Europe and Online an overview of the entire Championship.

Many thanks to those that support me on this little journey each year including Tyrone Hunter my photographer and partner, Crown Casino and the publications that request my services. Also thanks to my readers, for without you guys (you all rock) I would have nothing to write!

New Poker Song I'm ALL IN Co-Written by Hot Aussie Chick Danielle Adams-Benham Releases!

As mentioned in a previous blog I have been busy co-writing the new hit poker song I'm ALL IN by Jimmie Lee Jersey Outlaw. The song can be heard by clicking here: Jimmie Lee Song I'm ALL IN! I have taken my writing to a new level that it seems no other poker journalist has before and i am pretty ecstatic about it!

I'm ALL IN is being released this week on iTunes and available for purchase at CDBaby.
The Jersey Outlaw and myself decided there were just not enough poker songs available to grind away to as poker players listened to their iPods and music from their PC's while playing.

Everyone know the songs “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers and “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, but we decided that a little new age rock with a country fling was on the cards for music lovers and poker players.

We know that "I'm ALL IN" perfectly captures the emotions that a poker player feels when they are sweating it out in a big tournament or cash game praying that the poker gods will deliver the right card to seal their fate. We know as I have felt it!

Check out some of the lyrics below.

“Sweatin' and a Shakin' as I play my last hand, this could be the beginning or could be the end”

“My chips are on the table I got one card to go, I gotta hit the river, man, or I'm going home”

“I'm all in!”

Both Jimmie Lee and myself will be signing CD's for by the box loads in the months to come as Jimmie starts his 2011 tour including sold out shows in Las Vegas, and opening for legendary rocker, George Thorogood The pair are splashing the media and television, the song will be played at poker events, and at Celebrity Poker Tournaments where Jimmie is sure to be shown in hi
s new high roller clothing shirt which is available to purchase along with his CD's.

You can get more information about the Jersey Outlaw Jimmie Lee by visiting his site at www.jimmieleesongs.com and again hear the song here!

You have read many of my articles, sometimes we forget the words we read! I hope that my words in the song will stay in the heads of players for eternity after they catch on and purchase it. I'm ALL IN! Watcha think about that? I'm ALL IN, Yeah I like it like that! xoxo
