David Saab is my Friend How Can he have become a Drug Trafficker?

It not often I am speechless. For the past few days I have been though. As per my last blog post I was headed off to the Aussie Millions and excited about meeting up with all of my friends I speak to pretty much daily; sometimes weekly. My first port of call was definitely to see David Saab, a good friend, a loved friend, a friend I can't believe is a drug trafficker!

David rang me up just 2 days before arrived and said "Hello my little drinking buddy! When will you be here?!?!" I told him i would meet him at the bar at the player party, I was very excited to be seeing him. He has been a great friend, supporter and adviser. At times he has been my rock, he has been my co-host, my friend.

At the bar we met, first person I saw when walking into the party. Hugs, kisses, drink jammed in my hand. All the usual behavior and excitement about the up and coming game and weekends. I went looking for other friends after this, lost track of where Dave was but had it sorted to meet with him and the Saab crew the next morning at 10:30am. I really was so very excited to meet all the members of his newly formed crew to say the least. Particularly Remo who I am also in close contact with - specifically come my final tables.

So I meet with the guys the next morning, talk to them for ages, go to a party later that night, speak to Remo at the party for what seemed an hour and went back to my motel. I didnt see them the next day or night and traveled home to do some "homely things" and get ready for week 2 of my Aussie Millions appointment. Then I received a phone call that no friend wants to hear. It was my birthday, I was in terrible shock, it ruined my day to say the least. The guys acted like their normal selves, we talked about poker and the Saab crew and life in general. Nothing was out of the ordinary in their behavior or actions. Any wonder I was shocked!

As per all of the articles you have likely read, David and Remo and some other guy were placed in jail after allegedly smuggling 21kg's of Cocaine into Australia from Vancouver. I was again; shocked but mostly in disbelief - I think I will be in disbelief until I know every factual detail. It kind of reminds me of when Victoria Coren wrote about her disbelief about Ron Fanelli the mad yank who murdered a prostitute and placed her body parts in a bag. Why did it? I didn't believe Dave would do this and I could not imagine him spending years of his life in prison. He is not that kind of guy (the same thing Victoria had said about Ron).

I have been asked many questions since the news broke. I have read a lot of horrible things about my friends in relation to this. Most people do write that Dave is a good guy and of course I agree. Most people are also in disbelief. Many supportive, many defamatory.

Lot's of people say (now - not before) that David was obviously on drugs due to his bright, bubbly, shit talking personality. I can say as far as I am aware he isn't a coke addict and he is always bright and bubbly, giggly and talking non stop at even 9am whilst he has a hangover and drink his green tea. They couldn't be further from the truth. He is a bright man and that's just him. Again an intelligent man, which again; brings me to further disbelief.

Time will tell, I have no answers other then I will be keeping faith and hoping for the best for my friend even if he did do something stupid. Again IF. I find this hard to believe from David Saab.

Back to Aussie Millions tomorrow and hopefully not back there to be asked stupid questions that I cant answer. I read the same papers and speak to the same people as anyone who would ask me anything so I really have nothing to comment about.

Aussie Poker Millions Hat Trick Adventure

This will likely be my last blog post before I take off to the 2011 Aussie Millions Poker Championship with my partner and photographer Tyrone Hunter to report on the $100,000.00 challenge. That's not what i wanted to write about though. I wanted to discuss my thoughts on the whole Aussie patriotism and the possible results of the Aussie Millions 2011 being, a possible Aussie Hat Trick!

We have witnessed 2 Aussie fairy tale endings in a row now, being the wonderful win by Stewart Scott followed by the win of Tyron Krost, also an Aussie. We Aussies like doing things in threes, there is nothing better then a hat trick (3 in a row) for us! Will the Aussie crowd roar as another Aussie crosses the Aussie Millions Poker Championship finish line in first place?

My thoughtful adventure on this topic started last January after Tyron Krost won the main event. Many of the Aussie spectators didn't even realize he was an Aussie and left! I remember having a small talk to Marsha Waggoner saying, I am sure there is one Aussie left (3 handed). Tyrone my partner disagreed as did most others in the crowd. I then looked around to see the Aussie cheer squad gone to realize I must have been wrong. Gladly there was one Aussie left and of course as stated he was victorious.

The very next day i was shocked to say the least - 2 Aussie Poker Players in a row! I started to think of that hat trick then and there and knew that 2011 would be even sweeter if an Aussie was on the final table. The live bloggers would be going crazy!

Anyway, I got to thinking of all the winning Aussies, we have a lot of them now. So many solid players! I wondered to myself who I would love to see win. i have so many close Aussie friends playing in the event and would so sweetly love to see them win. I have so many friends overseas though playing also. I will be cheering whoever my closest friend is on the final table I guess! But to witness a hat trick is something i would also love to see.

My first stop on this little adventure will be the player welcome party. This will follow with a close railing of the $100,000.00 Challenge and then the main event! A hat trick adventure of my own - my 3 favorite and what I consider to be the most exciting and important events on the calender.

To all those already there - I look forward to seeing you and wish you the very best. I am off on a pre adventure to find a dress to wear, I just don't have one that's suitable! I might stop by the hair salon and the beauty therapist along the way. I think a new pair of swim wear is also on the cards as well as a stack of caffeine tablets for the late nights ahead. Here's hoping for a fabulous time! - Did I mention it's the third year in a row with Tyrone by my side as a companion at the events? Certainly a hat trick for me already! It is also the 3rd year in a row that i will be writing for APW (Australian Poker Weekly) at the event, and that Tyrone will be taking pics! Howz That!

Aussie Millions Coverage 2011

Every year I am at the Aussie Millions without a miss! I am certainly not live blogging while there, nor doing chip counts but regardless i am covering it by form of articles on the Aussie Millions for various publications such as pokerpro magazine, Australian Poker Weekly, and Woman Poker Player Magazine. I usually cover every event winner one way or another. This year I will be paying specific attention to the coverage of the $100,000.00 challenge and the Aussie Millions Main Event. As well as the victories of women.

Its an exciting time for everyone in the Australian Poker community to have the biggest poker tournament in the southern hemisphere on our door step each January. It's not just about the poker and i believe I show this in my articles.

My Aussie Millions coverage always includes a picture of the atmosphere, the tears, the sweat and the happiness and defeats. It shows major victories, newly found fame and friendships made and renewed! I try to add in the excitement of the functions beyond the poker tournaments and give good indicators of the fun times had by all.

There is one other thing that I always look forward to and that's the introduction each year to someone in the poker hall of fame. It gave me great delight last year to see our beautiful Marsha Waggoner inducted as the first female and one of the very poker players I look up to. I already have nerves as to who it is this year. I have my hopes on a particular someone!

Anyway, post Aussie Millions or post events rather for some publications you will read my articles on how it all went, the highlights and an insight as to most portions of the tournament including; as mentioned, the social aspect. All articles on winning women poker players will be sent through to woman poker player magazine as they hit! I will do a full coverage of all events to Australian Poker Weekly and to pokerpro magazine USA, Canada, Europe and Online an overview of the entire Championship.

Many thanks to those that support me on this little journey each year including Tyrone Hunter my photographer and partner, Crown Casino and the publications that request my services. Also thanks to my readers, for without you guys (you all rock) I would have nothing to write!

New Poker Song I'm ALL IN Co-Written by Hot Aussie Chick Danielle Adams-Benham Releases!

As mentioned in a previous blog I have been busy co-writing the new hit poker song I'm ALL IN by Jimmie Lee Jersey Outlaw. The song can be heard by clicking here: Jimmie Lee Song I'm ALL IN! I have taken my writing to a new level that it seems no other poker journalist has before and i am pretty ecstatic about it!

I'm ALL IN is being released this week on iTunes and available for purchase at CDBaby.
The Jersey Outlaw and myself decided there were just not enough poker songs available to grind away to as poker players listened to their iPods and music from their PC's while playing.

Everyone know the songs “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers and “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, but we decided that a little new age rock with a country fling was on the cards for music lovers and poker players.

We know that "I'm ALL IN" perfectly captures the emotions that a poker player feels when they are sweating it out in a big tournament or cash game praying that the poker gods will deliver the right card to seal their fate. We know as I have felt it!

Check out some of the lyrics below.

“Sweatin' and a Shakin' as I play my last hand, this could be the beginning or could be the end”

“My chips are on the table I got one card to go, I gotta hit the river, man, or I'm going home”

“I'm all in!”

Both Jimmie Lee and myself will be signing CD's for by the box loads in the months to come as Jimmie starts his 2011 tour including sold out shows in Las Vegas, and opening for legendary rocker, George Thorogood The pair are splashing the media and television, the song will be played at poker events, and at Celebrity Poker Tournaments where Jimmie is sure to be shown in hi
s new high roller clothing shirt which is available to purchase along with his CD's.

You can get more information about the Jersey Outlaw Jimmie Lee by visiting his site at www.jimmieleesongs.com and again hear the song here!

You have read many of my articles, sometimes we forget the words we read! I hope that my words in the song will stay in the heads of players for eternity after they catch on and purchase it. I'm ALL IN! Watcha think about that? I'm ALL IN, Yeah I like it like that! xoxo

Asian Poker Experience APT Philippines 2011

I have had so much fun looking into the Asian Poker Experience specifically the APT Philippines in the past few days. Mostly the attractions and what beautiful surroundings it has. The pictures of the under ground river, the parks and reefs are just astounding to say the least. I have included some of the pictures I was attracted to in this post.

Anyway, forgetting the attractions; I have sent out invites for what is deemed to be a spectacular event - or started to send them out anyway! If you have not received yours don't sweat, you will! If you don't class this as your personal invitation!

Here is the invitation and the event structure as posted in my events on facebook with the added bonus of some pictures - as indicated above:

The Asian Poker experience continues in 2011 with APT Philippines on the agenda from Monday March 28th through to Sunday April 3rd. This is your official invite!

The event will be held at Resorts World Manila - Pasay Philippines and there is an extra special bonus for those wanting the ultimate poker getaway!!!!

The Hotel Marriott is located next to Resorts World, at $135 per night (special APT rate). Certainly accommodation that w

You asked and APT listened! The side event
s are now 30 min levels (except for turbo’s and ME satellites) with larger starting stacks and what I consider the best structures possible. Min age is 21 years. A ladies event and a teams event has been included on the schedule.

Whilst visiting, between t
he games you play, you may like to take that special someone or simply yourself and your poker friends to the many available attractions including:

Tubbataha Reef, Palawan (Some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world): http://www.tubbatahareef.org/

Poker Business and Careers Are Tough Yet Looked Down At

Bank loans, housing applications, Private school entries for your children, master card applications, you name it! You have to place your career or business venture on it right? Mention the words "Poker Professional", "Poker Business Executive" or even "Poker Journalist" and certain people look down at you. Those people that do look down on people in poker related business and careers; I do hope you are reading this! Poker is a Business and Career That's Tough, but it's also profitable!

It takes one hell of a person to work in the poker industry. It takes strength, stamina, charisma, hard work and a mind set that most office executives reading filled in forms could never keep. It does not matter at what level you work in the poker industry - player, journalist, business man, site owner or manager, tournament director, poker room manager, marketer and publicist the list of jobs is endless! Without a doubt with each and everyone of them you need a lot more strength mentally then most jobs people work.

I see poker somewhat like the stock exchange for a player, managing your bankroll and investing your money wisely is a must for success. You invest it correctly and put your money in the right poker stock and play the ups and downs right and your a winner! Regardless of the job you do beyond being a player you are a poker player, so playing the poker stock exchange is in your life!

When it comes to other poker positions and careers there are long winding hours and roads to get through. Most tournament directors and marketing managers spend up to 20 hours a day or more at peak times doing their jobs. This also applies to journalists and live bloggers, cameramen and television crews. I assume those reading our forms when we make applications for things as mentioned in paragraph one do not consider this.

Simply, it does not matter whether you earn even $250,000 a year, it isn't on payslips, it's from gambling and it can be highly frowned on and can go against you. I ask you the reader, what takes more effort? what is harder? what takes more smart? what takes patience and persistence for success and who is the stronger person mentally and physically? The likes of a rental property manager, school principal, bank loan analyst, administration clerk, accountant, business man, I.T. worker or someone in the poker industry? I say without a doubt poker industry workers win hands down. I can actually say this and say it with extensive knowledge based on my previous positions and roles. They are as follows:

  • Business Owner Operator
  • Business Analyst
  • Business Accountant
  • Personal Assistant
  • 2IC
  • I.T. Manager
  • Admin Officer
  • Property Manager (or resort manager rather)
  • Teacher / Lecturer

You get the hint, there are a few, some I worked simultaneously. I have been there and done that! I have studied, worked and faced many a challenge where hundreds of thousands of dollars were in my hands and were on the line. It wasn't easy, but it was no where near as hard as working in the poker industry. I stay with the poker industry as it excites my brain and provides a challenge!

Anyway, to get back to the point: Poker Is a Business and a Career That is TOUGH! It's the toughest i have found, its mentally tougher then working high profile position for major corps and even in our defense force. If I am ever to change careers again (which I don't think I will) and happen to have a ton of applications lined up in front of me and one of them has a poker related career worker on them - this will win hands down. This person WILL be seen as a doer, a worker, a goer, a quality manager of finances.

I am hoping that as 2011 draws to an end that poker careers and businesses will be seen by the general public as what they are. That player's and professionals will be acceptable as "humans" and "eligible". People say the music industry and film industry are tough and indeed they are - so is the poker one and people should be adding it to the list too!

The Worst Poker Players Ever!

Negativity is always something I try to fend off but it keeps biting at my heels. Today i am in a negative mood and decided to write a post about the worst poker players ever and what makes them so bad. I can think of a few really bad poker players and for multiple reasons. I guess I have to look at what makes a bad poker player to determine the worst ones ever!

Bad poker players again can be bad for multiple reasons. They can represent the game and the industry poorly, they can be simply degenerate gamblers that just play to gamble, they can be players that invest money non stop into live or even online play and lose, they can be players that are one hit wonders that really have no take or idea on the game, simply got lucky and of course there are cheats which would in my mind make them the worst player ever simply by being one! I am sure there are more reasons for someone being the worst poker players ever but that's enough for now!

If i were to analytically go through each of these categories that make the worst poker players EVER, I could i guess number it down to a few hundred thousand players. I am sure some have cheated, some have just played for the hell of gambling, some are colossal losers (I know I am sometimes - not all the time thank goodness) and some just represent poker and the poker industry poorly.

Making my list into a few hundred thousand players simply isn't going to give me the nuts on the worst players ever. Sorry mum but you would be in that list as you do not even know what 2 pair is lol. To be fair on our well known players i can't be naming them either, most of them are good representatives of the game and are far from cheats or losers and naming any of them would be just plain wrong, especially when they are better players then I am!

I guess that leaves a riddle, who are the worst poker players ever? Is it even possible to name them? I think not! People play poker for fun, enjoyment, as children, at all levels. Poker players have the ability to learn and will learn the game for the rest of their lives.

There is no such thing as a worst poker player ever is what I think, I REPEAT "THINK"!
They can cheat and it doesn't make them the worst, it just makes them down right horrible! They can be a colossal loser but there is always going to be someone who is a more colossal loser, they can represent the game badly but be champions, they can have a bad recorded day, month or year and come back to win a million dollars or they could be a casual drunk at pub poker. It doesn't make them the worst ever.

In summary of my thoughts today on the worst poker players ever, I can't name them, wouldn't name them and are not going to try. Of course you could disagree with me on any of the above and say there definitely is a group of worst players ever. I guess someone MUST fall under every category there is to make them bad! I sure have seen some shitty players that are rude, abrupt, smelly, stupid, drunk, and non stop losers. If you are one of them, I guess YOU are one of the worst players ever lol. I know I don't stink, which makes me not the worst of the worst for starters, I don't think i am stupid either nor always drunk when I play so I can safely say I am not one of them.

P.s. on the naming players, I do not need a lawsuit would be another reason why I simply wont! hehe

Poker Manifestation Positive Thought and Determination

"Come to momma chippies!"

A few days before the new year set in I wrote about the year that had been. I decided that ultimate focus on my regime was a must for 2011 and also a few great poker wins. 2010 really sucked for me win wise, and although I had a fabulous 2011 in focus, I decided to hit out 2010 with a bang! I was so down with a huge downswing in my game and terrible choices when it came to making decisions at the table that I made it a must to WIN an MTT before 2010 ended. This would see me step into 2011 a happy and focused poker player on an upswing with the thought in my head
"Come to momma chippies!"
Instead of "here we go again with another loss!"

This decision is what made me realize I could do it! If i set my mind to it I could do anything! That's something that I had always believed in but somehow lost in 2010. I told my good friend Michael and my partner Tyrone - I am going to win this! Tyrone seemed pessimistic (and for good reason based on my results) and Michael said you can do it! Although negativity is something no-one needs, tyrones blasphemous comment made me more determined. i love to prove him wrong!

I made an effort to keep in the top 10 for the most part of the tournament and brought myself to a level of "zone" over and over i kept declaring that "I was taking it down." Unfortunately part way through I copped a bad, bad beat leaving me 2nd last with only 900 chips. Tyrone was sure that he was right and that i was going to be moody after this. I refused to give up. There were less then 20 players to go. A few double ups was all it was going to take and I was back! A lot of double ups actually! The leader was on 40,000 chips!

I sat, I faught back, hand after hand after hand. With 4 players to go, I knocked 2 out in one hand and found myself heads up in an awkward position. I had a 5.5:1 chip deficit headsup. The leader was on 110,000 chips by memory, I had 19,000. I refused to give up, I had come this far! I had made my mind up and i was NOT going to lose!

The ball was in my court to play the best headsup game I ever had to take this tourney down. Lucky for me I had focused on headsup play for the last few months of 2010! A few traps and a lot of agression afterwards and the tourney was mine! I had never cheered so much in my entire poker life. It was now December 31st 2010 and I had won an MTT! The last for the year as manifested and planned. The win wasnt big and the field far from enormous, regardless I did what i had planned to!

At the same time I won a $50 double up and a $20 bounty tourney where I knocked out 7 bounties. I could not have asked for a better start for 2011 when it came to my lower stakes poker game!

So, to summarise, there is the meaning of my blog title I now have my mind set on Poker New year Happiness. I know that we can all set out to do something and DO IT! Manifest it and make it happen! That is my plan, just do it, zone myself and DO IT! 2011 is going to be a fabulous year for me in poker, I can feel it!
