FeltStars Upgrades and Streamlines To Cater for Growth

A deal was struck today with the Merge Cashier System in an effort to help manage the growth that FeltStars is experiencing due to the latest developments in online poker.

You will experience a new and more streamlined cashier system in which will make for easier cash outs and virtually uninterrupted ability to make deposits.

This change effective from when the site is accessible in a few hours time means the perfect gaming portal for poker and casino enthusiasts.

Unfortunately this change means Australians will no longer be able to play at
FeltStars. This of course includes myself.

With that said, Australian's will still have the ability to cash out easily through the new cashier system. They will however no longer be able to make deposits nor play. FeltStars has been my home for a long time now, I love the staff, the team, the software, the games and the patrons and I will truly miss everything about the site.

I shall inform you if there are any changes in the status for Australian players. For now, good luck to all
United States, Canadian and European players. To all my FeltStars Aussie friends a big oi oi oi!

Aussie Millons Poker Championship Information

Many poker players around the globe are packed and ready months in advance to jet-set across the planet to the Land Down Under – Australia. In January they will be sweating it out from both the change of temperature and from the hands of poker they will play in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship.

Until a few years back the championship did not attract many international players. There were few that headed to the wide brown land to take a shot at the world-class action and the millions of dollars in prize money. This all changed with players from the USA, Europe, Asia and Canada taking down championship events and big cash prizes which were marketed largely. Although every winner has a fantastic story which increases the glitz and glamor of their win, no story has increased the participant numbers at the Aussie Millions more then Gus Hansen's when he won the main event and followed up his win with his widely famous book Every Hand Revealed.

It is not just memorable wins and great marketing that has players flocking to Australia to play poker in January each and every year. The fun times enjoyed by players globally can very much be attuned to the fantastic welcoming environment of Crown Casino Melbourne.

Crown Casino spares no expense. The player parties are fabulously catered and the entertainment is fantastic; there is usually an Aussie theme to make everyone feel right at home whilst at the same time giving them a good taste of the Australian culture. It is more than expected that on return to your home turf you have likely learnt the words of The Land Down Under by Men at Work, eaten a Vegemite sandwich and possibly held a snake, crocodile or other Australian fauna icon.

During the championship series it isn’t just poker that is on the agenda for many players. Many take short breaks from poker and make their way to the Australian Open to watch their favorite tennis players take to the court. The Australian Open is just a short stroll from the casino. Other players go to the Melbourne Zoo to have lunch in picnic areas with kangaroos hopping about and koalas in the gum trees. If the mammals are not their cup of tea, they have the Melbourne aquarium to visit, where they can see a spectacular amount of ocean life, including massive stingrays, which sadly led to the death of Aussie icon Steve Irwin, better known as the crocodile hunter!

Those lucky enough to take down an Aussie Millions event receive more than just the money. These players are given an exclusive Aussie Millions ring to proudly wear on their hand for eternity. There is also a beautiful watch and trophy to be won annually.

The caliber of player can get no better and if you are a poker fan, you will see just about every poker celeb. You will come across Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Chris Ferguson and of course local favorite Joe Hachem, the 2005 WSOP main event winner. They are always shown on feature tables for the crowd to enjoy and cheer on, although they are not always victorious of course.

Since June 1997 when the main event was a $1,000 buy in limit hold’em tournament that attracted only 74 entries with a $74,000 prize pool, the Aussie Millions has grown beyond belief. The 2008 championship, as an example, concluded with a record 780 players, which generated a prize pool of $7,800,000 with each entrant paying $10,500AUD each. The top 80 players were in the money and received between $15,000 and $1,650,000. The numbers have not stopped growing with 2009 and 2010 bigger again.

Since 1997 the structure of the tournament has also changed and is no longer a limit hold’em event. While most major hold’em tournaments, including the World Series of Poker, play at nine-handed tables throughout, the Aussie Millions main event begins with eight-handed tables. Play continues eight-handed until the field is reduced to 36 players, at which point all tables are six-handed. Day 1 is usually split into three flights.

All in all the Aussie Millions is not something that a professional poker player usually misses and the casual players around the world have also started joining in. From an Australian point of view, I cannot wait to shuffle up and deal.

Australian Poker and Casino Guide

Poker and casino gaming in Australia is booming. Poker in the Land Down Under (Australia) differs from any other country in the world in many ways. Knowledge of the available casinos and poker games (Texas Hold'em Poker or Omaha Poker) is a must for tourists visiting this beautiful country! For any poker player, having a game of poker while on holidays is essential, especially when overseas traveling. Here is what we have to offer in our wide brown land - Australia.

Australia Wide : Australia has the biggest free-roll poker league in the world (The APL - Australian Poker League). The Australian Poker League has over 500,000 members and 1 million dollars in prize money each year in 2 major tournaments. You can find a game in any corner of Australia every day and night FREE. You may not hang around for the rest of the APL season to play for the big prize money but you can have a great time and win some awesome prizes then and there. APL also offers online poker tournaments for its members. Remember, this is FREE FUN FOR ALL play poker free!

There is also the NPL (National Poker League) and the NPPL (National Pub Poker League) also providing free poker tournaments. T
here are also Sin City rooms and many poker leagues smaller then the APL, NPL and NPPL that cater for anyone any time. Check for these via the internet when you are at your destination.

In the state of New South Wales, we have the beautiful Star City Casino with poker tournaments and cash games running 24/7. Star City is currently undergoing a poker room upgrade to the value of 14 million dollars making it an even more special visit for poker enthusiasts. There are also many card rooms offering Texas Hold'em throughout Sydney Metropolitan and Regional Areas. Check the locality guides for information on these.

In the State of Victoria we have the world class Crown Casino where the famous Aussie Millions Poker Tournament Championship is held yearly. Crown Casino is a world class casino and has an accompanying world class poker room called Las Vegas. Here at Melbourne's little Las Vegas you can have a game on NL Hold'em, Omaha and play poker tournaments 24/7. Card rooms are not available in Victoria.

In the state of Queensland we have four casinos and quite a few card rooms to play poker in. The sunny Gold Coast is a popular tourist destination and we have made sure we cater for all you gaming needs. The casinos are as follows: Conrad Treasury Casino (Brisbane), Conrad Jupiters Casino (Gold Coast), Jupiters Townsville Casino (Townsville), Sofitel Reef Casino (Cairns). With so many card rooms and casinos there is no chance on missing out on a chance to play poker state. In the state of South Australia, the home state of Aussie Millions Winner and online poker player Stewart Scott we have Sky City Casino, formally Adelaide casino. Considering Adelaide is called the city of Churches, 1 casino is probably enough! There are card rooms available also; when visiting ensure you check your locality guide.

The state of Western Australia has only 1 casino. This is surprising with Western Australia having such a huge land mass. It appears easier for people to get involved in online gaming in this state. There are a few poker card rooms starting to open of late; please check the locality guide on arrival. Burswood Casino in Perth (Perth is the State Capital) is your only chance to get some live gaming action beyond poker in WA, unless you go to your laptop and download poker software and casino games!

The off shore state of Tasmania (The Apple Isle) has 2 casinos for you to choose from in the most 2 popular destinations. Wrest Point Hotel Casino (Hobart) and Country Club Casino (Launceston) are sure to blow your mind (or budget if you don't be careful).

In our Australian Capital Territory (The ACT - but also known as Canberra) we have only 1 casino being Casino Canberra. As with Western Australia take a Laptop and download poker and gaming software is probably a good idea. ACT is where you find our Parliament House, War Memorial and other great attractions you can view whilst casino hunting!

The Northern Territory caters for its casino gaming visitors in two hot spots Lasseters Hotel Casino (Alice Springs) and SKYCITY Darwin (formerly MGM Grand Casino). If venturing beyond these two major cities as with WA and ACT be sure to download poker and casino games!

My Poker Road, Poker Dreams and Poker Destiny

Poker has been a game played around me since childhood; but my actual poker journey started due to a down time in my life. I had lost everything after being the victim of a brutal attack. I left an executive high profile career behind, lost my house, my husband and my dignity.

One lonely night I sat by my PC, a mother of 4 kids; I didn’t get out very much and was sick of my dormant life. I found party poker play money and on the very first night of registering and playing managed to wind up on a table full of Aussies. These Aussie's told me how they played every night online as they had a beer and chilled. There was also a few Americans and Europeans as part of the tight nit group. I played on party poker with these people (who remain close friends to this day) every night for 6 months.

As I played on these tables I looked at the poker industry, I saw it suitable for all walks of life and I thought to myself “I am getting pretty good at this, I should play for real money!” I deposited on FTP instead of party poker as when reading forums it seemed that’s where everyone played. I also joined Gus Hansen’s theplayr.com. I was given a ton of advice from the forum members and read a lot of strategy. I went onto be moderator and news writer at the forum after they discovered my writing talent. I was put down and abused for this by a man in my life. “Why are you playing so much poker? You are an idiot! You won’t ever make a razoo, you’re useless in every way and you think you can go and talk to Gus Hansen?”. That day of “words” I made a bet that I would be “known” by Australian Poker players in 12 months.

I was noticed at the playr.com by Jack Mcadoo and after a 5 minute interview snapped up by pokerpodradio.com as the co-host with my segment covering areas of Australia, Asia and New Zealand. I also helped co-author some chapters in a poker book on poker forums and Seven Card Stud Hi.

This saw me make headlines (It’s All about Poker for Hot Aussie Chick) in a new Australian Poker Publication (APW). I then started covering Hot Topics in Australia and beyond and doing interviews with winners and professional poker players when required and sometimes by choice. Forgive me if any of this is out of order, it all happened very fast.

I then became a mod, admin and guest at DrCheckraise.com and various other online sites. I covered what I could media wise for each place, I felt I now had a life beyond 4 walls and a brutal attack horror story.

My journey then saw me move to Cybertech an online gaming software development company as the Manager of Aus/ N/z Division and then Global Director of PR. I was selected due to my poker knowledge, I.T. , marketing and accounting qualifications.

I have now been joyfully snapped up by womanpokerplayer mag covering poker in Australia and also started WTF Poker and Women’s Poker News. I have had a nice few trips away including a beautiful cruise boat tour followed by dinner at the Rockpool in Sydney with Barry Shulman and Allyn Shulman (Cardplayer and Spadeclub and Allyn a legal and director of the Poker Players Alliance). Making great friends in the poker industry is something I will treasure forever.

I have no destination; and no pit stops. What I do have is a love for the game, writing about it and being in this phenomenal industry. My final phase in my poker road will take me to live tourney tables and to the online majors weekly. A few big wins will evidently send me on my way to the ANZPT and APPT tours.

To date I have battled boardrooms, tables illnesses, motherhood and haters. I am definitely in the minority group in the industry and it has been very tough to continue along this road of roadblocks and pot holes because of it. Marsha Waggoner is a great remote mentor without her even trying; just by watching her and getting some inspiring comments from her I know that being a woman with children you can strive to whatever level on mountains heights you like if you set your mind to it. One day; a small dream I will be like her, a beautiful person a mentor and a recognised player (not just poker personality) in Australia.

I for now pursue the top of the mountain climb with full knowledge I will get there. When I succeed at this climb it will show other ladies and also gents it can be done, regardless of the falls, stumbles, health issues and family issues they may face.

I am like everyone that reads this; human. I am not a robotic piece of machinery or junk; things beyond my control still step in my way; my health right now an obvious one. I have feelings and thoughts too; associated with my presence amongst others and how they perceive me. One day I am hoping I get merely the respect I deserve by everyone around me for achieving for myself, my family and others some level of success and for my input and support to other players and businesses in this crazy poker world. I guess it won’t come until I erase some “names” from tables as I climb the final step of my mountain in bounds. I may not be the best tomorrow but I am pushing myself and hoping it won’t be long until I am at least up there with Aussies finest players.

My last timeline bet was 12 months; it took me 3 months to achieve my objective. This time I am saving the backing until I deal with health and other private matters being a new major roadblock in my way. Here’s hoping I can drop that time down too! AMEN to the PPA!
