Poker Tell Detection Scientifically and Psychologically

My last post was all about reading people eyes for lies. It explained which way the eyes moved when a person was thinking a certain way. It explained how to tell, through the eyes if someone was fabricating a story. Over the years I have done extensive research on how to spot a liar through their body movements. So really I should have started with that as a post for anyone out there who is switching from online to live poker play.

Why, you ask; did I ever study to become somewhat a human lie detector? My foremost "job" before poker is an analyst. My first position held was with the Australian Defense force working with a civil company called Communications Design and Management. I was thrown into deep water at the age of 18 to get in depth information on the Armies current communications support systems before implementing a new one and watching all the current workers get sacked. My tell detection and study started here.

The communications support team that was in place before we were thrown in to take over knew what was happening. They knew the longer that it took for me personally to get the information, the longer they were in a job. They also knew if I couldnt get the information they were home free. In addition they knew that there were un-notated government assets all over the base that they could take with them. My job was to get a grip on what they were doing and how their systems worked, where the data and physical assets were kept and how the systems were monitored ....and how to use the current system before I shut it down and put the new one in place as they walked out the door.

As you can imagine this was one tough job. There as little effort to give assistance and stand over tactics certainly were out of the question. The only was I was getting my information was to be more deceptive then they were and to detect every lie I possibly could as i interrogated them day after day on the happenings of the current system and flipped through paper work and buildings for hard evidence and knowledge.

One of the first things I remember reading about as I tried with frustration at the highest level possible to extract the necessary information was how the brain worked when they were telling lies to me. I learned from my reading that 1 part of the brain is used when you are telling the truth where as 3 parts are used when you lie. I also learned that one who lies covers with another lie and another lie and another lie until they can't lie anymore and they trap themselves at a dead end. A person who is telling the truth is straight to the point and has little to say. There is also telling tales by omission, telling the truth but not all of the truth, simply not giving the full story. In this case the brain works the same as when one doesn't lie at all. That's when you really need to weed out the info.

There are always the people around that are brilliant at telling tales, or rather hiding the truth. Poker players are obviously good at hiding the truth especially when they batten down the hatches, close their mouth, have on their sunglasses and hats / hoodies to cover their face and stay as still as they can. Weeding out info can be very dangerous when it comes to this situation in poker, but at the same time very profitable - dependable on how skilled the other player your against is and also how good your reading skills are when it comes to picking up tells on them and placing them in a memory bank.

Body Movement Tells Defined Scientifically

When a poker player is on a big bluff, unless a genius, he will have more movements then if he has a monster hand. Let's look at an example and we can see why I say this:

If he is on a monster hand and has gone all in he is telling the truth and therefore only 1 part of his "lie section" of his brain is working - he is saying to himself "I have the hand, please call". This is the truth, he will likely be as still as a statue.

If the player is completely bluffing out his arse, he has 3 parts of his brain working, its been shown on MRI's. He will be fidgety, or move more even if he is staying as still as he can. There are very few brains that can avoid these movements. He simply can not concentrate on staying still as he is thinking far too much as he uses 3 parts of his brain. The movements occur as 3 parts of the brain are working to fabricate his hand strength (or tell a lie). He is saying to himself "I hope this bluff works, I am screwed if he calls me, am I giving away any information, shit I better stay still, what is he thinking? This could make or break me". As you can see the bluffer is thinking a lot! These thoughts make uncontrollable movements happen, moving in his seat, moving his head, nerves ticking, movement of the hands. He is thinking sit still, don't give away tells but he is thinking a lot of other things also.

Of course one can be highly skilled in bluffing and lying and not move at all - possibly they are zoning out of the situation and thinking of another hand they won with the nuts. This is a good hint for your own psychological control and a reason many players meditate and spend hours relaxing and zoning out of their thoughts into a state of almost unconsciousness. For some it comes naturally, for some it doesn't. Live poker is not all about skill of card play but psychological control also.

Reading Tells or Lies Through Seating Position of a Player

These are probably the most easiest tells to read. One wouldn't think so as the person is moving all around the place in a casual manner. The player is moving around, chilling out, having a beer - He sure as hell isn't in the make or break hand thats going to cost him masses of dollars.

Simply, if a player is bluffing he will move and sit the following ways:

He may lean back in his chair (move away from you)
Sit to the side of his chair
Keep his arms crossed
Keep his hands tightly folded in his lap.

Reading Tells Through the Voice

By the time we are in the all crucial hand with another player, we have usually spent some amount of time listening to their voice. If the voice suddenly changes pitch and speed, one can assume something is triggering this. Usually liars change their voice patterns suddenly when a lie cuts in. You need to remember that if someone has the nuts and is playing for a lot of money they will be nervous and their voice will change then to. There are also the players that will remain silent. Voice tells must be equipped with other tells. As noted above.

Combination tells are always the best method of read. For the record, the voice alike other body parts that give away tells are effected by whats called the autonomic nervous system. This is where the science comes into it for those wondering why I am making such remarks. When it comes to voice, if you ask a person a question and they are telling tales their body movements work in opposition to their answer. An example:

Q:"Do you have the nuts?"
A:"No" as they nod their head indicates they do
Q:"Do you have the nuts?"
A:"Yes why else would i go all in?" As they shake their head in a no gesture side to side.

Try it yourself, answer someone falsely (in good taste of course) and as you are speaking to them your head movements will indicate your voice is spitting out lies! I did this to my partner just the other night lol. I asked if he liked the lasagne - He said "It was delicious" as he shook his head in a no gesture so casually, calmly and unknowingly that he was telling me no as his head shook left to right.

Reading Tells Through Smaller Movements & Self Reaction to The Person

These are gestures commonly associated with liars and bluffers:

They cover their mouth
They rub their eyes
They touch their nose
They scratch their neck
They touch their ears

If our gut tells us they are lying or bluffing yet they are perfectly still and not making any of these movements nor showing any of the other signs, the automated process of our autonomic nervous system does something very strange. We start what they should be doing. You will find that YOU do this when you have a very strong hand and your instinct tells you that you have them beaten. You will be the one touching your nose, neck, ear - whatever your system has you automatically do. Sometimes this can result in a liar being tricked into you being the liar or bluffer, whichever you may wish to call it.

A scenario - the bluffer is doing nothing to set of warning bells, there are no visual tells but you think he is bluffing, you are going to touch these notated areas of your body without realizing. If he is tuned into bluffs and tells and what to look for and you re-raise him, he may push all in thinking your also bluffing. This is obviously great for you and something to consider when analyzing a situation.

In short, any small change in a persons behavior indicates lies, bluffs and deceit.

Poker Table Porn and Breasts

A sexy, enchanting, beautiful lady walks into the room. She is dressed seductively, her lips ruby red and glistening under the heated casino lights. There are many players on the casino floor playing texas hold’em. They are focused on their game and winning what they can. Their focus is stolen by the smell of this ladies sweet perfume as she walks by. She distracts the players; she is in the eyes of all men in the room. Old, young, drunk and sober men cannot resist the urge to look at her seductive body.

Everything on her body looks fantastic; one could confuse this beautiful woman as a prom queen. There is but not one hair out of place, her silky and short tapered skirt shows legs that are a treasure in themselves. Her breasts curved ever so perfectly; moving with her body ever so slightly as she walks past. You can almost see your reflection in her glamourous, deep eyes.

Who has a chance of winning this lady? Who will be buying her drinks and taking her home? Who is going to get lucky, you? She is a prized gem!

Ok, hopefully I reeled you in!

What does she do next?

She goes to the buy-in cashier, gets her chips and goes to a table full of adoring men where she continues using everything god has physically given her; plus more to distract and extract!

There are many men who say they don’t care if it is a female or male player at their table that they take the player for who they are and how they play their game. I doubt these men have had a set of sweet smelling C cups which are attached to one of god’s most beautiful humans who has the poker strategy, scent and talk to match the brilliance of her perfect body. Although few and far between, these ladies are out there and making a living from poker is what they do best.

Watch it guys, you can be eaten alive. I have seen it done and for the record it wasn’t by me lol. My Danish friend racked her prized possessions against some of Aussies apparent best (I didn't say elite). Her rack was big and so were there eyes. She charmed them, flirted with them and had each and every one of them compete for her attention. She had them wanting and needing and wishing. I believe they were more focused on her breasts, scent and body (as well as what was in their pants) then anything – regardless of what they thought.

Call it poker porn? I do – they couldn’t focus on anything but Miss Dane, alike if they watched a porn movie. Bring it on ladies, and watch it men!

Women at the World Series of Poker 2010 My Winning Tips & My Feminine Poker Thoughts

Today I find myself laying around and day dreaming. I have been thinking of my fellow women in poker, the WSOP and have also had deep thoughts about my friends and teams that I think have a really good chance this year. I thought my laying around day dreaming picture would be suitable for such a post to help you get the picture LOL. Let's start with me re-capping my thoughts on women and the WSOP.

There has been much speculation about 2010 being the year of women in poker and I have got to say I have been some what impressed by the performance of many ladies this year! There was a comment made by an absolute imbocile which has me writing this blog post on women. He said "A woman won't win a bracelet at the WSOP even if they are the only entrant - women suck at poker." The guy has my attention! Obviously! Comments anyone?

Here's my comment to the guy who thinks he knows everything. "You mate, are a fool! Let's start with the fact that there will definietly be one women that wins a bracelet and I won't be argued with on that. Infact, I am willing to make a wager bigger then I ever have before! You have no clue what you are talking about, obviously a lady will win a bracelet..... In the ladies event durrrrr!!!!!!" (I was laughing so hard as I thought this) Maybe there will not be 3 winners; but there WILL be at least one.

Anyway, events are underway and it's getting very exciting! If I had to pick a female that would win a bracelet beyond the ladies event it would be Annette Obrestad; although such pressure could surcome her. I guess everyone is expecting a big performance from her. I think an unknown women will cash too. Actually I HOPE not think. I want to see another last lady standing; one we don't know of as yet. It would be a fabulous addition to the years events. A new poker queen on a throne to join the current ones.

So just a quick re-cap on women in poker leading up to the tournaments of tournaments the WSOP.

We had Annette Obrestad win an Aussie Millions Gold ring to be the first sole woman.
We had Annie Duke take down NBC heads up
Liv Boeree win EPT San Remo
Vanessa Selbst has won the 2010 PokerStars North American Poker Tour

There have been many small wins too that people havn't noticed. Including ones in the WSOP circuit events. The likes of the CPT (canadian poker tour) see's a lady Mary Gabriel in 2nd spot too.

There have been 2 women signed as team pro's with online poker rooms (that I know of off the top of my head). Lacey Jones became the face of the CPT. Womens poker hour has re-started with Amy Zupko and Chess Bitch Jennifer Shahade and in Australia Kirsty Brew showing that she can come back to win an event from less then the cost of a big blind with 3 tables to go! (poker network magazine editor).

There has been a ton of publicity directed at women too. "Year of the women", "Women wins event". You get the hint; I think it already is the year of the women of poker, with or without an additional bracelet win beyond the ladies tournament at the WSOP.

In addition to all of this we have Marsha Waggoner being the only inductee for the year and first female inducted into the Australian Poker Hall of Fame. The USLPC (US Ladies Poker Championship) coming up. The Maven Awards for Women in Poker in it's Inagrual year (with some fine candidates I must add) and much, much, more! I could type all day, but I won't! You get the hint.

I am now going to sit back and watch and cheer on the ladies of the felt; and also my team mates from Team FeltStars at the WSOP. I will also be cheering on team Shulman again and are hoping to see them hit the final table or even take down another bracelet. Of course, I will also be cheering on all my friends and fellow Aussies when I see them doing well. Until next years WSOP when there will be one more lady added to the felt in Vegas - me!

Just to prove I pre thought of it, in the case that it may happen. I pick that my mate Sorel Mizzi will final table the WSOP and or win a bracelet. I think he is ready to bash his way through. Good Luck to Huggy also!

Are You Out Already?! The Poker Question that Annoys Us All!

There is nothing worse than being knocked out of a poker tournament, heading to the toilet then to the bar to be asked by person after person “Are you out already?” It is like these people do it to annoy the living shit out of you! As if it isn’t bad enough you have lost a little form or had your ass whooped by a donkey player and been sent to the rail – these questioners want to annoy you even further!

Not only are they annoying you and making you even madder about being knocked out but they are making you re-live the hand that just ruined your tournament life and your night. The last thing you want to be doing is remembering that bad beat and repeating the story over and over again. Regardless, we all know it happens and we do.

Is it actually the case though that these people are deliberately annoying you or even mocking your play? It’s a really simple one to answer. Not every player is asked this question “Are you out already?” when their poker tournament is history and they are back to being a railing snoop. Some people are knocked out and it isn’t noticed as they head to the rail line up or – the bar!

Before getting annoyed and wanting to slap them in the head for the further insult on your nights play; have a good hard think. Why are they asking me this?
I personally take this question as a compliment! They actually expect you to still be playing! I have asked the best pros in the world this question! My words: “Oh my god! Are you out already?” I don’t ask as an annoyer or insulter but because I am shocked!

Use the askers to air your annoyance, head to the rail and watch Mr or Mrs Donkey who knocked you out give your chips away to the lucky recipient and enjoy your night! Alternatively – go home and play some internet poker and be prepared for your online mates to repeat the question "Are you out already?"

Play Psychic Poker, Using Your Instinct and Tells Explained!

Have you ever walked into a room and gazed into another person’s eyes and got a "feeling"? A feeling so intense you had to look away. Have you ever felt like someone was watching you? Have you ever felt uncomfortable around a person and thought "this person is BAD" or “good”? On another note do you think you can pick caring humans and honest humans, from the sneaky and sly, nasty ones? These feeling as more then helpful at a poker table, let me explain!

At a poker table you rely a lot on these feelings. Some of us just don’t listen to these feelings. Our mind has the tendency to trick us out of listening. If you can pick up on these "feelings" when socializing, you can train your brain to do it whilst playing poker.

There are mainly mind facets in a game of poker. A classic example would be Doyle Brunson having the favourite hand of 10, 2 off suit. In theory this hand is a “trash hand” – to be folded as quickly as we see it, but not for a master reader of “feelings” such as Doyle. It is possible that Mr. Brunson would have made a poker psychic! I can't quite remember why that's his favourite hand right now, but my point is, he plays it!

Gus Hansen recently was branded a fish amongst the sharks. I giggled as I sat back and watched him smash heads playing online poker and wipe the table of sharks clean the next day, including the person who made this accusation. Knowing your opponent is important, but knowing yourself and gathering "feelings" is more so.

I use Doyle and Gus as examples for what I refer to as psychic poker. Sure their poker skills are great. But reading feelings, tells and the like is their master trade. The masters watch for not only tells such as heart beats, and other obvious ones that are stated all over the internet and in poker strategy books, but go with their gut, analyse people and overcome any fear they have inside. They KILL the tendency of the brain to trick them out of what they feel, the initial gut feelings they get.

The next time you see a person and get an immediate “feeling” that they are angry with you, that they are sad, overwhelmed or intensely happy - remember, you were right, there is no doubt you were right! The same applies to playing “psychic poker” you will also be right if you are in the next poker hand and your mind tries to trick you into folding when your initial "feeling", your "instincts", told you the person has a much "weaker" hand or "is bluffing". Psychic poker, using all of our natural abilities to see tells works, try it!

Poker Masterminds – Mastermind 1 – Barry Shulman

I recently started looking into what makes a winning poker player. You would know this if you have been following my blogging and on air broadcasts. If you haven’t followed be sure to look at the blog post from last month “Winning Poker Players”. This research along with a quick mail message to a friend prompted me to write throughout the next twelve months about Poker Industry and Poker Player Masterminds.

I decided to start with a man that more than impresses the industry; although he is very humble about his successes. This man is one I have met, talked with and worked with on a very small level; this is no other then Barry Shulman. I have recently had the chance to look into the poker life and successes of Barry Shulman. After careful research I decided to place him in this Mastermind category which should never be done in my opinion without serious consideration. Mastermind is not a title I would hand out too often! Barry Shulman is a mastermind of a player and also one in the poker industry. Here is the definition of Mastermind:

Genius: Someone who has exceptional intellectual ability and originality; Someone who creates new things; Plan and Direct.

Let me show you how Mr Shulman fits this title.

I have notated Barry’s success both on and off the felt and he is not only what makes a winning poker player (as previously blogged) but also industry leader in hard cover publications with Cardplayer and Subscription Poker Sites such as Spadeclub. He has exceptional intellectual ability in the field of poker and its related components, original in what he does, is someone who creates new things and plans and directs them. I guess that’s why he is the CEO of the world’s biggest poker magazine!

I personally always saw Barry as a brilliant live poker player. Looking back at just the last few months this should be obvious to everyone after him winning the WSOPE (World Series of Poker Europe) and coming third the PCA Paradise Island. It is noted that Barry has had $4,325,695.00 in live tournament cashes. Now that’s one hell of a poker player and certainly not a one hit wonder! I am also under the assumption that all his wins are not recorded as Barry Shulman has been playing poker since college in the 1960’s.

It was only yesterday that I discovered that Barry had beaten 1098 competitors in an online tournament on poker stars just the day before; taking with him in excess of USD$93,000.00. Wins like these we don’t often hear of. It made me realise that Barry’s poker game was ACE both on and offline. One can only imagine how many more games he has won online that few know about. This ladies and gentlemen is a winning poker player, a poker player mastermind!

Barry’s knowledge and ability in the game of poker goes far beyond playing on the felt though. I myself am a poker journalist and I can tell you it isn’t an easy job, it is time consuming and tiring work. Being the CEO of the world’s biggest hard cover publication Cardplayer as well as its online sibling cardplayer.com has got to have abilities beyond belief. That’s no easy task to say the least.

In addition Barry has a sound investment in Spadeclub, the new way to play! Spadeclub is a subscription site and is changing the way people online game. Barry is also a well renowned poker book author.

Barry Shulman if you ever read this blog post; may you class yourself as the first of the inductees into my little collection of Masterminds of the poker industry both on and off the felt.

Poker Mastermind Number 1 – Barry Shulman!

The Ancestral Hunting Method Used for Today's Poker Society

Our ancestors from centuries ago had no choice but to hunt for live prey to survive. Their daily and weekly hunts if not successful had consequences; their families would starve or be forced to eat basic fruits and nuts. The choices made by our ancestor hunters were very important in determining their success rate. These choices apply to our online poker and live poker games. For these hunters, times and places carefully determined; was the general key to success and a plentiful meal.

As a poker player completely reliant on poker as a source of food for our families (or self) we should look carefully at exactly what our hunting ancestors did. We should see these hunting ancestors as role models for our choices and determinations in poker prior to playing even a freeroll tournament.

These hunting role models take everything in consideration before their hunt.

1. Dress (camouflage)

2. Time (When the most easily caught prey is around)

3. Location (Where their prey are located)

4. Weapons (What they have at their disposal to catch their prey)

5. Energy (Are they energised enough to hunt)

The list could be much longer but the above points are for now sufficient.

In comparison to poker lets line these up again and I will show you my preparation.

1. I dress comfortably; wear a cap and usually sunnies with intimidating poker brand clothing. Or camouflage any poker knowledge by wearing a hot and attractive outfit somewhat like the red dress I am wearing in the pic beside this sentence.

2. When playing online I hit the tables when people in other countries will be tired and drunk. Friday and Saturday night USA and Europe time is good for me. When playing live, I try to have a good rest and hit the tables when I know most others are tired and again have been drinking.

3. I look for online poker rooms where there are plenty of fish and no sharks. You will not see me playing high stakes on fulltilt poker as I don’t have that much money for starters but also as I will be looking down the poker food chain for some nippers. Small rooms are good for me.

4. I go in with all guns blazing. I use everything I have been taught from trapping through to the mathematics that I know. I use all of my poker strategy!.

5. I make sure I am energised, alert, and have had a nice nutritious meal.

Before going off to play your next game of Poker think of our highly skilled ancestors, the hunters. Be prepared; alike our ancestors were for optimal success rate in catching your chips on the felt for your weekly meals.

Ensure you are at the right place at the right time, have had plenty of sleep and a nutritious meal and that you have all guns loaded. If you are playing live, dress for success.

The fact the we are alive on this earth today is perfect evidence that the hunters of yesteryears didn't starve to death and that they provided plentiful amounts of food for their families. For if their methods had failed, human life would not have sustained. What worked for them, works for us, take the knowledge they left behind and use it on your next poker hunt. Go for the successful kill or eat peanuts; it really is as simple as that!

The Great Poker Debate! Online Poker or Live Poker, What's Best?

When we look at the words poker and rooms combined we are psychologically going to think one way or another and at times both ways. What do I mean by this? Really my meaning is simple.
Did you think of online poker rooms?

Did you think of poker rooms in your local area or of a casino abroad?

Did you think of both?

When I thought of writing this blog article and typed the words “poker rooms” I personally thought about online poker rooms. I paused and thought about poker as a whole and thought “I have forgotten about the brick and mortar rooms today; my bad!”. This made me add the word “debate” to my title and well; here I am now throwing a debate at you!

One would believe that the immediate thought of online poker rooms makes me an online poker player. This is the case, I rarely play in a live poker room; time and lifestyle till now hasn’t permitted me to play live too often. You may have stumbled across this article as a casual internet user and may play in live poker rooms; maybe you play in both. The questions are what is the best for us to make profit; live or online? And is there a difference? Let me look at a few of the differences and the way you generate profit from each of the poker playing types.

Structure and Convenience:
Obviously there is a huge difference when it comes to structural surrounds. With an online poker room you can play in any building or location that you like. I have even had discussion with people who have continued to play in an online poker room while they were on the toilet!!!! A Poker room made of brick and mortar is at a distant location and you must go there, stay there and then go home. Result of the debate on which type poker room is more convenient would indeed be online poker rooms and I guess that’s why I play online more – the poker room structure and convenience!

Cost Saving Poker Play:
Online convenience can be cost saving too! No need to transit is a saving; especially if the transiting is going to be 300 miles! There is no need for accommodation, flights, fuel for your car and you can eat and drink from your own refrigerator. There may be some small fees if you need to deposit or withdraw and the currency conversion also comes into place. This is nothing compared to the prior mentioned transit tho. The result on cost saving poker play: online wins again!

Poker Game Security:
There is no hiding the fact that there has been a ton of collusions, scandals and hustling on online poker rooms. These have been documented, investigated and dealt with. Online gaming software developers have embedded high tech security systems into their software to detect a lot of this nonsense. It still happens though with hundreds of thousands of players online it is always going to be hard to stop all cheats. Live poker games are seen to be the ants when it comes to avoiding security issues; in my opinion though a lot of things are overlooked by people. Hustling still exists, so does colluding and chip dumping. There is team tagging and all sorts of cheating. People in large tourneys chip dump live; they also work together to pot build in cash games. It is apparent though that scandals and card stacking in a players favour are all but impossible. One thing that is always overlooked though when playing live is personal risk. I would rather have 10k online and log off my PC then carry it out of a casino. I would also rather piss an online player off by sending them broke then one in a live scenario to be beaten in a car park and robbed or have my car vandalised. I know this doesn’t happen often: but it does! My friend Doogs had his car destroyed! Another friend strangled someone one day at the table. This is a real toss up BUT based on the pros and cons of each that I have quickly added up – online wins again! Go add them up for yourself and feel free to add more via comment.

Socialisation and Fun:
Online poker play can be a ton of fun, especially if it is risk free poker play with a bunch of friends from all over the globe. I played years ago with a bunch of friends on Party Poker – every night! We became close, enjoyed the time together and have mostly all met in person now. Online poker can be very social and fun. There is nothing like meeting people face to face though, no doubt about that. Live poker play is the winner here by a mile! One could think of annoying drunkards in either of the play choices and there is no avoiding them – again, live poker play wins this little part of the debate.

Profit Making:
Barry Shulman has won more than 2.6 million dollars playing live poker in two tournaments. 1.3mil in October and then another 1.3mil in January (give or take some $$). There is no doubt when it comes to big cashing that live poker plays wins. The weekly majors online just don’t cut it. You can’t win that much money in a few months without having 10 high stakes cash tables open at once and having a brilliant run in tournaments. Obviously I am not a big gun in the poker world, I don’t play stakes that high, but analysis tells me that this is indeed the case. On a weekly basis you can win more playing online though, you can play on multiple rooms and multiple tables if you want. Also the play never stops when tournaments are involved (also cash – but you can play cash games nonstop live also). In the long run I believe an online player at an elite level is going to win more money as they can play more. But a live player can win just as much with a good run over years with less time and effort spent doing it– I hope this makes sense. I would prefer to spend less time and effort to win big bucks so I choose live poker play here; but it is very close and some would oppose me and choose online.

Reading and Tells:
An online player can be marked, noted and branded. At the touch of a button you can see what type of player they are and how they have previously played. All of their stats are available on tournament and also at times cash play. You can instantly see their strength and weaknesses and also pick up on betting patterns and hand ranges at the table as you play with them. Live poker play you have the ability to read a person’s face, body movements and well; tells. If they are a gun player you are going to know how good they are and have a good indication of how they play; specifically if you have racked up against them before. Regardless of these physical indicators there is more data available at your disposal on an online poker player if you want to get technical and use it. Some people are not interested in this though and are happier to read a person face to face; then and there! They are better at reading a person’s live tells too! Better at reading live tells then using statistical databases on a PC. Mathematically online poker wins this debate; but to some players the maths doesn’t count. Realistically though one is better off having notations and statistics and pattern tells.

And the winner after debate ....

Well there really isn’t one. This blog post is informative and hopefully has pointed out some things you may have not thought of. The debate will forever continue. Back to the first lot of paragraphs! You are either an online poker player, live poker player or both and nothing anyone writes is going to change that fact. The debate of which form of poker playing is better will continue for centuries without a doubt. There really is no answer. For now I will continue playing cost effective, profit making online poker as time permits
