Online Poker Abuse

Occasionally we see people mouthing their traps off at live tables in casinos throughout the world. Not so often though, not as often as when we play online poker. I compare the people who mouth off and say the most disgusting horrible things during a game of poker to those that people mention as cyber bullies. I am sure they are wife beaters and child beaters too!

They are far from cool.
Online poker gives people will low self esteems that really suck at poker the ability to let loose at people who obviously dont want to hear it and usually dont deserve it. If they were playing in a live poker room or casino instead of an online poker room, they would mostly have their arses kicked out and never be able to return. Too bad we didnt all have a flick switch or a security guard in our own home to have them booted.

So what exactly do these people think they are achieving by abusing other players and calling them names? Maybe I should have asked the guy this morning who blatantly told the whole table he wanted to F my face? Are players like this on drugs? Playing drunk? Always like that? Seriously whats the go? He distracted me for a second, like thats going to help him win. I certainly am not tilting from some dumb comment like that.

I remember back to the days of my free poker playing. It was a heck of a lot worse back then. Some players hunted you down and came to your free play table simply to harass you. When thinking of these free play people who do it, it makes me realize that they are simply filthy scum with nothing better to do and no one that actually cares. I mean they do it on play money tables as well as buy-in tables so distraction cant be the reason. I guess it is a likely scenario that they simply are angry, nasty people.

These people are from all corners of the globe. They are not only from US friendly or Australian Online Poker Rooms. They are everywhere! They are unavoidable! If i was to be a programmer I wouldn't be worried about programming the chat boxes so they do **** when someone says F#ck. Everyone still know what they have said. its really so dumb! I would be programming the chat boxes to send them warnings before finally banning them if the poker room managers deem their behavior is inapropriate (or language rather). A little message to security wouldnt go astray. I know ome rooms you just type poker room manager or the like and along comes someone to deal with it.

My many friends know that back in my younger days I had my chat suspended more then 10 times by mouthing back at people. If they can ban me on play money tables for defending myself with an F U Ahole Your a D#ck. Surely they can ban the perps. For the record i have settled down over the years and have happily kept my chat for many without it suspended.

I am not sure why I wrote this blog post other then this face Fing guy made me realize its a big issue and probably VERY offensive to some people and to point out to myself and to others that turning chat off could be a good idea. In saying that however, you miss out on online tells when you do this. People cant help but speak about their hands when they are over, this gives you a good indicator of what they are up to that you cant see. It a lose lose situation. Learning to ignore is the only option I think.... thats a "I think".

I still don't have an answer after all these years. I sure as hell have worked up defense though - pure ignorance, its bliss :)
To the guy that told me he wanted to F my face today. Please be warned I bite hard - go ahead and try it, you will be missing more then chat after you do!

Online Poker Monopoly Overlooked by Players

I am sure it is not surprising for you to read the following words:

The biggest poker sites on the internet are PokerStars, Fulltilt Poker and Party Poker.

These sites have far more traffic, the traffic on these sites compared to smaller networked sites is just beyond belief and it isn't because of anything special other then the T word being TRAFFIC. If few by few players played on smaller sites this would change. Remember: There once wasn't a single person playing on the online giants! Not one! People say 6000 players isn't enough traffic when it's plenty enough. Once the likes of FTP and PS had NONE!

What does bring the traffic to these sites other then a ton of money they now have due to being one of the first, which they use to market and promote largely? They do not have better games, better support, better promotions and better software. If we looked closely the benefits of playing on these sites are far from great to be honest - other then the obvious fact that more traffic = bigger payouts in tournaments. On the other side - The competition is stiffer, there are many more entrants to beat in tournaments to be able to make a good buck (smaller sites offered non stop guaranteed tournaments which can equate to the same prize money - more actually).

Really, the benefits appear to be on smaller sites! So why do we all keep going back to the giants?

Reputation is one reason, lets face it though there have been scandals on bigger sites and we know it. The smaller sites are not in the position to scam anyone, they can simply not afford to! There have been some dodgy small sites that ripped people off. I am talking NETWORK skins though. Merge, Cake, Poker Network, ELG just to name a few of the networks which have skins.

Sure it is my job to sell the fabulous benefits of playing on feltstars.com but this blog is not about selling feltstars but more so showing that the more players that spread their funds across multiple smaller sites, the more we as players are going to have on offer.

Compare these signup and promotions at the moment between a MAJOR SITE and a Network SKIN, now really compare and if you didn't know the names PS and FTP who would you choose?

Skin:

Major Site:
  • 100% signup bonus up to $600
  • The other promotions do not really apply to smaller, casual or lower limit players
  • There are leagues
  • VIP Points System
  • Rakeback Available
  • Cash Freerolls with over 3000 players

As for support, skin has live support and major site takes 4 days.

I think that should answer who we should be supporting. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is a true saying when industries monopolize. In my opinion when players wake up to the fact they can make a ton of money on small sites, the players will be the ones winning with more and more suitable promos being thrown about by all sites.

How to Make Money From Poker For a Living

I hear these song words intruding on my brain as I write this blog “Love the One Your With, Love the One Your With!” Obviously this song has nothing to with poker but this is my writing here and when I write EVERYTHING has to do with NL Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Stud or online poker! In this case loving poker and how to make money from it, the obvious is of course win!

“Love the one your with” is something every single one of us should do both on and off the poker tables. I went through an online poker “fad” of playing only heads up. I was really, really worried. I was thinking over and over that this could affect my other games such as poker tournaments and cash play. I was however making money.

Poker is like riding a bike; we never forget how to play. Once we learn certain skills they may need a touch up now and again, but they are there forever! Mastering skills is the issue. We can play poker for a life time and will never actually master the game. Back to the point >

For weeks I am playing only heads up poker and had the thought this would affect my other games. I consulted friends and associates with great knowledge on the game whom I have the utter most respect for. They told me it would make no difference to my other games, while you are having fun, making money and loving it – stick with it!

I did just that, I loved heads up and continued loving the game (one) I was with at the time. This actually improved my other games. When I am heads up at the end of a tournament, I rarely lose. When I am playing against only one other opponent in a Texas Hold’em cash game (as everyone else has folded), I usually take down the pot.

Many people that play poker overlook the fact that they are there to make money. It is a job that so many of us enjoy but it can also be monotonous. Let me ask you something, would you rather play poker and make money or work a monotonous factory job? Some players grind $3.30 Sng’s all day. These players play poker for a living and make a truck load of cash.

Playing poker can be a very boring task when you do it as a daily grind. Gotta love it though; love it a lot more then stacking boxes or magazines or watching tins go past in a dead end job right? Again love the one your with. Playing poker to make money isn’t all about the thrill of winning a big tourney. It isn’t all about playing deep stacks and gloating that you took it down. Poker as a career means playing a lot of boring stuff. Again though if you are making money, say $100 an hour. Why would you choose anything else? Yes you CAN do it!

If you sit and play double ups (I suggest 10 seater) all day long you are going to make a mint. Have 5 of these running at once (Do not need much attention paid in double ups) and at $10 a hit and you are making at least $100 and hour. Not many people make that much. Again, it is not about the gloating and rubbing big wins in peoples faces, its about making money from poker as a living. May the grind begin and time it like a job and LOVE the work you do!

“Love the one your with” and stick with it for as long as you love it. That’s my motto anyway!

Poker Domination Strategy and Use

I recently sat back and watched one of the world’s best professional poker players on another table during the MTT (Multi-Table Tournament) we had entered.

Watching him play brought to my attention his ability to take charge of the table. His natural ability to lead and dominate stood out to me, more than anything, going on – even my own game.

Through the initial tournament stages he pushed and shoved, he dominated to the point he had table ownership. Respect came from this table ownership! Such respect that if he raised the opponents in the poker tournament folded. When he was called, he didn’t back down unless an obvious firing gun was pointed at his head.

This made me realise that even in an online poker tournament; taking charge of your table and dominating is by far the best method to achieve brilliant results.

His leadership role continued from table to table, there was never a chance he was going to be beaten. It appeared by taking leadership of his table, and taking the chip lead of the entire poker tournament, the tournament was also under his control! Domination from the start works, taking the leadership role on the table and for the entire tournament is something we all should try and do.

Admittedly I was busted out in 40th place after attempting some stupid aggression to take the lead and try and dominate my table. I learnt from this mistake though, I did it too late! Once the table was owned it was too late! The only way I could have altered this is attack the dominator, make him look foolish and me the one in table control. Next time, leadership and domination from the start or at the right point!

Online Tournament Cancellations After Long Game Play

We all know that playing some big tourneys take a long, long time. Hours, most of the day is usually a time frame that we would place aside to win some big cash. When a site goes down however, so does a tournament which can leave a person tilting more then imaginable and for a long, long time!

I am only just writing about an incident which left me more then furious! I imagine that anyone would have been. It didn't just leave me furious but also wondering. "I wonder if this will ever happen again, and worse! Worse if it is more money involved!" I suspect that not many people have had this happen, but it does, I assure you. Not too often thank goodness.

I was playing in a tourney, $15 + $1.50 buy-in and had been for hours. The bubble had well and truly burst with only 18 remaining. I was in the lead and at this stage no-one looked like catching me quickly, I was in the zone, on fire and chipped up!

It was break time, I went off to the bathroom, got a drink, got back and sat down to play as I cintemplated how I would finish the tournament off which would help pay for a new car. I was happy knowing that I was cashing pretty big for such low stakes. Then a message came up:

This table is being shut down by the system administrators

I couldn't click ok to make it go away and was scratching my head as to why they would shut down the table when there are 9 on it. I giggled at the stupidity and then realized it was possible that people had been cheating and that maybe that was why. If so, I was happy! Be gone with cheats in my opinion - I hate them!

A new message appeared:

This tournament has been cancelled for scheduled maintenance, as per policy your tournament entry will be refunded. Something along those lines. I didn't know what was going on. I looked at my account balance and there were a few hundred more dollars in it, I didnt understand what the heck had happened.

Suddenly the site went down and was unavailble, I was not impressed! I was yelling and screaming and seeing my visions of the grand win fade away. I had been paid a portion of the win which is why my account balance went up, the same portion as the other 17 players. I had also received my tournament buy-in back. Brilliant!

What do I want? A win and a nice cash for all my hard hours of work? Or - a few hundred bucks and a tilt like one wouldn't believe? Stupid question to ask really.

Regardless, in years of online tournament play, this has only happened twice to me. That's pretty good odds that it won't happen. It is obviously not going to happen during online majors (Sunday USA and Monday Australia) but it can! It took me a few hours to realize the chances of it ever happening again were next to none, at one point I was never playing a tournament again lol.

Anyway, when it happens on any site, you are compensated as per the terms and conditions which are pretty much the same on most sites. For the man or woman who has only 500 chips left, this is awesome as they get the same as the leader; who is obviously harder done by.

New Online Poker Rooms - Are they Poker Candy?

New online poker rooms pop up online as much as mushrooms. They appear so quickly that at times they disappear just as quickly and go un-noticed. Some have very few players offer very little to their clients and are impossible to get a game on with cancellations due to lack of players and the worst - very long wait times. Many new poker rooms seem to have clients in one set of countries only limiting play styles of opponents. There are benefits though to new rooms, especially those who are owned and funded by a trustworthy company.

Benefits of a new online poker room include:

· ‘Usually’ competition that’s a lot less fierce than poker rooms that have been around for a long time. These poker rooms CAN be gold mines.

· They offer great signup bonuses to try and drag in new customers giving you great value for money

· They have brilliant customer service as the want to keep you there and of course have less customers to deal with than the online giants - this does not apply to them all! Nor do all online giants provide lesser customer service.

With all this said it is usually more than beneficial to try out a new room. Many people are sceptical and don’t trust new poker rooms nor believe what benefits could be available. There is a simple way to ease your mind and that’s by making a minimum deposit to trial it OR having a little play on their play money tables. By doing this you can also test the stability of the software (is it pausing, crashing or operating perfectly as an example).

Finding new online poker rooms can be quite difficult if the company opening them has not marketed well. Let’s face it though, if you have not heard of the people involved in the operations and their marketing budget is about the same as the cost; of a loaf of bread it’s risky touching them anyway. I suggest you go to new sites via searching for new online poker rooms, seeing who these are driven by (There are some long standing networks in place) and also via referrals and links provided via people you know that have obviously good connections and name (As an example I would not want to advise you to play on a rip off site, you would hate me and my name would be tarnished!).

Being one of the initial players on a new online poker room can also help you become very well known. If you can mix up your play style and change gears when you are playing this again is another benefit as the other sites players will “think” they know how you play ;-)

On the other hand there are the most respected and trusted online rooms available that have a name for a reason. There are thousands and thousands of accounts on these rooms. These poker rooms are above board and have great reputations due to providing a long standing reputable service to consumers. They usually have professional representations and do everything by the book from marketing to tournament structure, payout and cash outs.

What I have written is a guide, a guide if you plan to find a new online poker room. Sticking with the larger, reputable online poker rooms is usually the best scenario – again, there are benefits of going across to a new one with all precautions taken as indicated above!

For the people who are really sceptical about playing online poker you could always try a long standing subscription service such as SpadeClub while you get used to it. The cost is flat (at the moment $12.50 a month) and the rewards are HUGE – you can win thousands of dollars on a site like this with no risk. CardPlayer Magazine backs it all the way so if its a subscription site with huge benefits you are after - this is definetly my suggestion above all!

Building Your Bankroll With Online Poker Promotions

Whenever I go looking for a game of online poker on a poker site I have not played on, the first thing I check is the online poker rooms available promotions. Of course I ensure there is nothing too dodgy about the poker room’s background as I don’t want to join a room which may close and take my money; but mostly I go straight for the poker room’s promotions page.

Poker Online Promotions can add a substantial amount of money to your bankroll when selected and used wisely. The first promotion I look at is the sign up bonuses. Getting a good deal on a sign up bonus can double and even triple your bankroll. Some signup promos include free rolls for first depositors. Make sure you check on these also and ensure they are being played when YOU can play them! Living in Australia the 3am wakeups for tournaments can get annoying!

Many poker rooms also offer loyalty rewards, free entries into live tournament satellites, refer a friend programs and online stores where you can spend you loyalty reward points. It is very important that you look at all of these different promotions available and make sure you use them to your full advantage.

Let me show you just how much you can increase your bankroll from a $50 deposit.

Deposit $50 on a site where you receive a 100% signup bonus and you suddenly have $100 (this usually has conditions related to the amount of points you earn – the more you play the quicker it’s paid).

Refer a friend and have them successfully deposit and you may receive another $50.

Some sites offer up to 12 $1000 freerolls for new depositors win or place in a few of these and add maybe $300 to your account.

Summarised: for your $50 you now have $450 PLUS the tournament entry fees which would likely equate to another $60 making your total profit just from joining depositing and playing $460 give or take a few dollars – and that’s profit folks!

To look at this one step further at the same time you are playing you are earning points. These points also go towards tournament entries and merchandise purchases. With some online poker sites the promotions really don’t end! I do mean this too, with some offering free cash, VIP tourneys; monthly freerolls and Country related ones. Other things include raffle like cash wins and bad beat jackpots.

Now remember the above figures are just an example of what you CAN get and they have not taken into account the fact that some people may deposit $50 go to a cash table, spend their bankroll unwisely and use their $50 in one hand. Advice is NOT to do that!

All in all ensuring that you look closely at the online poker promotions available at all sites can be very profitable. Enjoy searching through some new sites available promos, don’t sit back and be ripped off, miss out and fall behind. Change rooms if your room doesn’t offer good promotions!
